Em_barc: Energy Mobile Building Arts and Research Center
This cross-disciplinary endeavor between the Engineering, Science,
Architecture and Art colleges at Norwich University established a
platform for students to collaborate, design, and build a mobile solar
powered research lab from June to August 2010.

Students from these colleges overcame obstacles such as vocabulary, construction documents and technical skills to solve daily problematical constraints of a construction site. NU Development department secured the appropriate funds to purchase the necessary equipment, PV rays and the twenty foot steel shipping container to fabricate the lab.
The lab is equipped to test exterior, interior and ambient temperatures to study insulation properties. The lab also has a water collection and filtering device used to study and to drink from in the field.
NU professors: M. Lutz, M. Puddicombe, E. Schmeckpeper, D. Westerman, and Angelo Arnold managed the three-month student internship. Architecture students: P. Abiles, J. Quell, K. Dupell, K. Quinlan, Construction Management students: B. Flood, E. Schutter, A. Quilgley, C. Millet and Engineering student A. Heckman built the laboratory.
