The River of Light is Waterbury's annual Community Lantern Parade,
now in its second year. Both in 2010 and 2011, Angelo Arnold worked as
part of an artists' team to give students from the Waterbury/ Duxbury
School District an opportunity to learn basic construction techniques to
create willow and tissue paper lantern structures.
In addition
to this, Arnold worked with professional artists during a special
two-day lantern workshop, to design and build larger-scale luminaries to
spearhead the procession. The artists had willow and bamboo at their
disposal as well as tuition in construction, structure and form,
lighting, wiring and back-pack and harness building.
